Hi, we’re Matt and Melissa Herbert, and we’re the owners of G.J. Gardner Homes Central Coast.
We are a husband and wife team and the proud parents of two young children. We’re also skilled professionals who value time with our own young family, often enjoying caravanning and boating together.
Having worked in the residential, commercial, and industrial construction industries for decades, I’ve built well over a hundred homes, from small cottage-style holiday retreats to multi-million dollar homes. I’m known to be a great problem solver and a very resourceful person, no matter the location or predicament. Coming from an academic background, my wife Melissa is the more detail-oriented of us, preferring to take care of HR and business mechanics. Our skill sets complement each other completely and are a major reason for our ability to work successfully as a team.
As a young family ourselves, we understand the market and relate to young families wholeheartedly. With the backing of GJ Gardner and the standing the company holds, we are well equipped to create the best quality homes for the people in our community.
We love the opportunities that the Central Coast has. The Central Coast is incredibly well-resourced from one end of the coast to the other with fantastic shopping hubs, home-maker developments, and new town centres. There are also new schools, land openings, and more infrastructure investment making it extremely community-oriented and an attractive place to live. As nearby locals, we are well acquainted with the area having done a lot of work there already.

Can I get the first home owner’s grant?
Cash is almost always a consideration when buying your own home for the first time. To help first-time buyers purchase a property, Australian state governments offer similar variations of a first home owners’ grant, when the correct circumstances are met. Depending on which state you are building in, this grant can range between $7,000 to $20,000. The grant is available when purchasing a new-build property, or on the cost of building a new home. The process of building with GJ Gardner was so much easier than I thought it would be. We were dealing with people that were friendly and caring about our situation. They were very good at their job and any changes to the plans were no problem. The workmanship is fantastic and we were able to use some local tradies which we appreciated. We nearly feel guilty as to how easy our build was.
We’ve been living in our G.J. Gardner home for about a month now and it’s fantastic. Our scheduled completion date has only just passed so it finished about a month ahead. The whole team to deal with were fantastic. We were sent updates on the house weekly (or whenever there was an update) and nothing we asked for or about was too much trouble. We always thought building would be stressful, but the G.J. team made the process a breeze. Big thanks to the team for our beautiful family home.
The whole process was smooth and stress free from start to finish. Quality products and quality service. Any complications were solved quickly with a friendly chat and without issue. Change of mind or ideas were easy and staff offered small changes which has made all the difference. Final cost was nearly spot on!
