After many discussions about what to do with our old home we decided that a small renovation wasn’t going to be enough to resolve the issues of extra space require. At a minimum we would need 2 extra bedrooms another bathroom and a larger kitchen family area. The original old home offered us very little natural light in the main living areas and no connection to the backyard entertaining space and pool.
With this in mind we engaged the services of a local architect that designed a style of home that we loved and was in keeping with our beachside location. We gave our preliminary plans to several local builders to quote and at that stage we felt that it was within the range we would expect to pay and went ahead with final plans and approval. It was at this point that the pricing had increased and we were not prepared to go more than a certain percentage above our original budget considering landscaping, window coverings and any extra furnishings required.
We set about looking for a new alternative to build and it was suggested to us by a close family friend that we talk to the team at GJ Gardner Homes. We took plans to Horst and Melissa Lueckl and came up with a collaborative solution to our building that not only answered the look and quality we wanted to achieve but one that would also make financial sense.
We now have a beautiful open plan weatherboard beach style home over 3 levels to accommodate our sloping block capturing views of the local area and coastline. It features 4 bedrooms (3 of which are king size), 2 bathrooms with a separate WC, separate laundry, large kitchen/family area that leads to a beautiful lounge room complete with gas fireplace and internal access to a sandstone trimmed large double garage with storage.
We love the 2 spotted gum covered decks perfect for entertaining at either end of the home with Tongue and Groove feature ceilings. One is accessed through French doors in the lounge room at the front of the home and the other is accessed through a set of Bi-Fold doors of the kitchen family area that opens up the whole back of the house to a sunny backyard and pool. In Summer you can open up both ends of the house to capture the ocean breezes and with it’s now perfect North East aspect you can close off in winter and enjoy the natural winter sunlight and warmth. We also love the beautiful wide entrance hall that connects many areas of then house and makes it so open and easy to live in!
The upper level of the home features the master bedroom complete with 2 walk-in robes , an ensuite with a beautiful custom vanity and recessed storage mirror unit and a private balcony that captures lots of natural sunlight and ocean views.
All the friendly staff at GJ Gardner Homes, including Steve who helped us make many of the initial decisions made the building process much easier with their fixed price policy that offered quality solutions and flexibility of choice in all products used to complete our new home. At any price point a new home has many projects to complete both indoors and out and with GJ Gardner Homes it was possible to complete the whole project not just part of it.
