Aussie kids in need will have access to more resources to reach their full potential thanks to the $375,909 donation to Variety – the Children’s Charity raised by the sale of the GJ Gardner Variety Freedom House today by Keyline Property Group.
The funds raised will be used by Variety to help kids throughout NSW to provide practical equipment, programs and experiences to help kids overcome obstacles they face and live life to the fullest.
Variety grant recipient, Daniel O’Brien (8 years old from Grose Wold) was diagnosed with a form of Congenital Muscular Dystrophy called LMNA-CMD or LCMD at 18 months. The diagnosis meant Daniel has extremely low muscle tone and was not expected to walk.
Daniel received his first power wheelchair at 2 years of age and to make sure he could travel everywhere with his family, Variety donated a wheelchair lift for the car. More recently Daniel received a new wheelchair and Variety granted $14,000 worth of modifications to the chair including a tilt function and seat elevation to help Daniel maintain his independence.
“The independence the wheelchair and car lift gave Daniel was amazing. He very quickly became an expert at driving his chair and it was amazing to watch him discover the world around him,” said his mum, Joanne O’Brien.
“Without the car lift from Variety, Daniel would have been confined to his home and miss out on all the normal experiences a young boy should get to take part in.”
GJ Gardner Variety Freedom House is a stunning four-bedroom house built in a partnership between GJ Gardner Homes and Redbank North Richmond and sold for $895,000.
The home was constructed at cost price by GJ Gardner, the land was donated by Redbank North Richmond and donations of time and resources from tradies and businesses around the area allowed for the significant donation to be maximized.
Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW CEO David Sexton says the donation will make a significant difference for kids in NSW.
“Every Aussie kid in need has the right to a fair go and money raised by this fantastic community collaboration is an exciting way in which Variety can ensure all Aussie kids are given the opportunity to overcome obstacles and enable them to reach their full potential” said Mr. Sexton.
David Hogan, GJ Gardner Sydney West franchisee said, “When GJ Gardner’s builds a home, we aim to make dreams come true. We are thrilled this house will help Variety – the Children’s Charity help Aussie kids in need dream big.”
Variety – the Children’s Charity has an ongoing partnership with GJ Gardner and the next GJ Gardner house to be built to raise money for Variety will be in Shoalhaven.
