Fascinating trends have emerged in kitchen design across the USA and Canada this spring, with Australian interior designs keenly following. Here are some of the looks we love:
White painted cabinets
Don’t be scared of using white in your kitchen! Of all the classic kitchen colours it is white-painted cabinetry which is still on top, a trend which first started accelerating last year. Given its remarkable, upward climb it’s clearly no fad. White is a timeless colour and new easy-to-clean paints are making it easy to keep your kitchen looking crisp and clean.
The preference for glass splashbacks has grown dramatically. Use your splashback to introduce a vivid colour into your white or neutral coloured kitchen. Don’t just think glass - natural stone or porcelain tiles make great splashbacks. The way to go is bright, think turquoise, lime green or tangerine. Another great way introduce colour into your kitchen is with appliances. Gone are the days of kettles and toasters only coming in metal or white; now a range of vibrant coloured appliances will make your kitchen pop with colour. Take a look at companies like Smeg, which are taking appliances to the next level in 2014.
Consumers are now keenly aware of the importance of energy efficient lighting. Designers are responding to this new demand with eco-friendly lighting which is smart and stylish. And out the front of the lighting pack is LED (light-emitting diode). The significant uptake in this style of kitchen lighting in the last three years shows that this trend has serious staying power.
